A Times Online article reports on a German cannibal who ate his willing victims. Besides the usual news of the weird aspect of this article, I find it to be interesting on many other levels.
Pursuit of Happiness - "...at least five men had already declared their willingness to be eaten." Let's get those right to die laws on the books!
History - "Cannibalism not only breaches moral and social taboos, it hits a nerve for a whole generation of Germans who remember the desperate eating of human organs during the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union." So wartime Germans preferred organs. Yuck! I would have gone for the meat!
Censorship - "For German literature however wartime cannibalism remained a forbidden subject." I see a new play on the horizon.
Mondo Cane - "Police have confiscated 50 videos which are said to be worth thousands on the very specialised market for cannibal acts." It's a sub-class of the snuff film market. Can you imagine the conversations these video collectors have? "...and then he strangles him to death." "Yeah, but does he eat the body afterwards?" "Um, er, no." "Sorry, not interested."
Etiquette - "He says that he and the victim fried and ate part of the victims body before leaving the kitchen for the slaughtering room..." Would it be appropriate to refuse to go through the procedure if you think you taste bad?
Social Impact of Technology - "...modern cannibals use deep-freezing to extend and ration out their pleasure. Primitive cannibals used to eat their victims all at one go soon after killing." I can't wait to see freezer manufacturers target this audience.
And at the bottom of the article is a list of other cannibal related stories you may have missed.
Damn, human beings would be a lot more interesting if we could re-grow body parts!
My biggest fear is that after I'm dead, my writings will be referred to as 'confused clutchings.'
