I have a problem with the Sci Fi Channel. They have a few great shows, many so-so, and some real stinkers - but at least it's science fiction. Sometimes Sci Fi seems to wander off the deep end and pack their programming with some really weird crap. I'm not talking about fantasy-adventure films that deeply offend the author, but real crap like John "Asshat Psychic" Edwards and amazingly vapid dream interpretation trainwrecks.
Currently, Sci Fi is inching back into their old ways with moronic Ghost Hunter, Hunting Ghosts, Ghost Hunt Xtreme, and Dramatically Narrated Ghost Stories Told by Hunted Ghosts. But I was content to let it slide because I was waiting (with breath, baited) for the new seasons of Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, and Stargate Atlantis.
But it gets worse! Today I stumbled across this news article about Sci-Fi's newest addition. Sci Fi, in their infinite wisdom, have decided that what sci-fi fans want is... wait for it... Extreme Championship Wrestling! I shit you not. Oh, the humanity!
"Research tells us that there's a healthy appetite for wrestling among Sci Fi viewers," says Bonnie Hammer, president of Sci Fi and the USA Network, which airs "WWE Raw" to strong ratings. "With ECW, we're able to deliver to those fans unique action with a twist that's perfect for Sci Fi."
No doubt the people who did the research for Ms. Hammer are the same ones that decided Farscape wasn't popular and assured Bush that there were scads of WMDs in Iraq.
Please someone fire her or debut a real sci-fi channel.
Please!

Bonnie Hammer is even worse than that:
They now air SOAP OPERAS on the SciFi channel.

QUOTE from SOAP OPERA SITE: "Starting February 13 [2005!] you might just have the chance to get caught up on old episodes [of the PASSIONS soap opera] thanks to cable's Sci Fi channel! You heard right! The Sci Fi channel has acquired the rights to air "Passions""
Weee!
See how messed up that channel is? Bonnie Hammer, and Mark Stern, (and Dave Howe) at the SciFi network even AIRED THE SOAP OPERA named "PASSIONS" on there.
They used sci fi channel money from your viewership, and even paid for the rights to it. And that's the kind of thing, that you get shown to you, after they cancel things like FARSCAPE.
They can't pay for farscape, or BSG, or can't pay the writers, or for Stargate SG-1, but they can pay for "PASSIONS".
Soap Opera Central:
http://www.soapcentral.com/ps/news/2005/1226-scifi.php
"Beginning in early 2006, the series will start appearing in reruns on a popular cable channel.
SCI FI Channel has acquired to rights to rebroadcast old episodes of Passions. ... the NBC television network and the SCI FI Channel are part of the same family of television stations, with both being owned by NBC Universal. "

Actually, if you are shaking your head, and disgusted by this, write and tell Jeff to can the whole lot of them:
1. Bonnie Hammer - Responsible ECW fake Wrestling being on SciFi.
2. Dave Howe - Responsible GhostHunters & Passions Soap Opera being on SciFi
3. Mark Stern - Cancelled Farscape, BSG, Stargate, Invisible Man, Painkiller ajane, and Dresden Files on YOU.
They said they can't pay for your BSG, Farscape, can't pay 8 cents for the writers, and have to cancel Stargate, but they can pay for Soap operas, fat momma, and wrestling. Which is what you have now, instead of your favorite shows.
FIGHT! WRITE! And Dont click close & think someone else is doing it already. Don't be shy. Give them a piece of your mind! To: jeff.immelt@corporate.ge.com
Do it.
